MEMORIAL TO SCOTT.
CEREMONY OF UNVEILING. HEROISM rN ANTARCTIC. Renter. LONDON. Ausr. 10. Tho national memorial to those who died with Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition of 1912, was unveiled at Devonport before an immenso gathering. Commodore Charles Boyd, who was a member of Scott's first Antarctic expedition, unveiled tho memorial, and asked tho Mayor of Plymouth to accept its custody. He suggested that tho children of tho local schools should be brought into tho shadow of tho memorial to hear the story of the expedition as an example.
Those who laid wreaths on the memorial included Mrs. Hilton, young Master Peter Scott and tho surviving officers of the Discovery.
The monument is a granite pylon surmounted by a bronzo group representing courage sustained by patriotism spurning fear, despair and death.
