DEEP-SEA FISHING.

A PUBLICITY BOOKLET. Anglers in the Dominion and overseas will be interested in an excellent little booklet just issued by the Government Publicity Office, and- printed by Wilson and Horton. Ltd., which gives a most interesting and complete exposition of the art of swordfish and mako fishing, with a description of tho various fishing grounds at Russell. Tauranga, and Mayor Isb>nd. Angling for big game fish off the northern coasts of New Zealand is becoming a great sport, and visitors from various parts of tho world have declared that for thrill and excitement it rivals the splendid salmon and trout fishing in the Dominion's lakes and rivers. Deep-sea fishing, with the rod is still so new to New Zealand, however, that overseas anglers have not yot much opportunity of gaining first-hand information and details with regard to this exciting snort, and for this reason the publicity folder will doubtless be warmly welcomed by those to whom it finds its way. Information is given as to shipping routes from England, Canaida and tho United States, followed by a description of tho big game fish the angler may hope to land while engaged in this fascinating sport.. The habits of the swordfish. mako shark, thresher and kingfish are described, also the beautiful harbours of the North nnd tho Bay of Plenty, from which tho deep-sea fishing centres are reached. • An important feature which receives special mention is the cost of a day's sport, while all anglers will appreciate the useful information given with regard to the best kind of rod and tackle to use in their battles with the big fish. The fishing records for 1924-1925 will also be read with keen interest. Tho booklet is woll illustrated, and contains a wealth of information that will without doubt serve to popularise still further tho fascinating and unrivalled sport of deep-sea fishing.
