A complaint was made then that tho real beauty of the old bronze was taken away, but the mellowing returned fairly quickly. Tho difficulty of cleaning the statue, if it was really necessary to clean old (mellowed bronze, was that if acids were used it was certain that tho cleaning preparation would run down and destroy; the appearance of the stono base.
