LEVEL CROSSINGS.

THE " WIG-WAG " SIGNAL. [by telegraph,—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. Some interesting particulars concerning a new automatic device which the Railway Department intends to instal at level crossings were given to delegates at the New Zealand Farmers' Union Conference in Wellington by Mr. D. Rodie, commercial manager of railways. Mr. Rodio said the department was doing a groat deal to protect the public at level crossings. The best warning was the "wig-wag," an automatic disc, which dropped down on an arm by day, and- was a red disc of light by night. The "wig-wag" swung from aide to side in the daytime, and was acknowledged all over the world as the effective warning at level crossings. It was the intention, of the Railway Department to instal these warning signals at all dangerous crossings.
