FASHIONS FOR MEN.
Silver is the name bestowed upon the new shades 'of grey which has arisen out of the popularity of the lighter tones of that colour at Ascot. Already the great English and Scottish woollen manufacturers are making plans to feature silver for the spring and summer of 1926, for what Englishmen wear during the four-days racing at Ascot is broadcast to the four corners of the earth and tho lead is followed, writes Mr. Fonthili Beckford, a fashion expert. America, in particular, has been demanding this week cabled reports on thoso well-dressed men whose names ara famous as fashion leaders. Silver is well known in flannels and has become a great rival to, and a mora staple colour than, tho wild shades of beige, biscuit, and twine. It is, moreover, the popular colour to-day for odd trousers at Cambridge. The fact that the Duke of York and Prince Henry wore light grey worsted morning coat suits will give added impetus to this colour and material. Hitherto grey has been looked upon as the shade for older men, particularly whore formal wear was concerned, but nowadays all traditions have been broken down, as was illustrated again at Ascot by tho popularity of white or silver grey toll hats with tho younger set. Those men's neckwear shops which cater for the most exclusive West End trade report an unprecedented demand for silver and white, grey and white, and black and white neckties. One American buyer at present visiting London placed orders for a very large amount of silver and grey neckwear. Silver, too, will be the fashionable colour for jerseys, pull-overs, and golf stockings.
