1 *l*- ' | ' * PRESENTATION! OF PRIZES, THE LIPTON CUP WINNER. Tho Akarana Yacht Club its thirtieth annual smoke concert) and pre* sentation of prizes in the Masonic Hall, Prince's Street on Saturday evening. The Patron, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, presided over a large attendance of yachtsmen, including representatives .of all tho local yacht and launch clubs, the Harbour Board and tho City Council. The hall was gaily decorated with flags and streamers and there was an exceptionally fine display of trophies, including four cups won outright, a points cup and the Lipton Challenge Cup. Six coiils of rope were included in tho prizes. The chairman stated the past season had been very successful'and he wished to congratulate the club on its decision to build a clubhouse which would fill a longfelt want. Tho Harbour Board had granted tho club an excellent site in Mechanic's Bay, at a rental of £lO a year. To finance the cost; of the clubhouse—a two-storey building, 40ft. by 60ft.—the club had decided to issue 1500 debentures at £1 each, bearing interest at 6£ per cent. The debentures were being taken up by yachtsmen an.d he hoped that before very long the club would be in a position to go ahead with its scheme. He would be pleased to take up a number himself. (Applause.) The prizes won during the season were presented by Mr. The most important were the Eliot Davis Cup, won by the Wairiki; the Commodore's Cup, won by Wairiri; the Brett Cup, won by Ola IV; Hanson Cup, won by Lovelight; gwinnerton Cup, won by Sadie; Grey Cup, won by Peri, Ingram trophy, won by Namu; Wilson trophy, won by Mystic and the Bennett trophy, won by Ilep. The points trophy for class M—a splendid oil painting presented by Captain T. Ryan—was won by Mr. W. R. Wilson's Maroro, while Ola IV, owned by Mr. E. Swinnerton, accounted for the Brett points cup for the Star claps. Ola IV also carried off the champion flag for her class presented by Mr. A. Braund, and a special points trophy donated by Mr. A. Walker. Having won the Lipton Challenge Cup for the third year in succession with Marie, representing the Akarana Club, Mr. V. Lidgard was presented with a suitably engraved shield from the club. Responding to the toast of donors of trophys, Mr. Elipt R. Davis took the opportunity of congratulating Mr. Lidgard in winning the Liptbn Cup. The speaker would be; paying a visit to the Old Country next year and he was looking forward to meeting Sir Thomas Lipton, who was very much interested in the sport in Auckland. Among other toasts honoured were: Kindred Clubs, proposed by Mr. E. B. Webster, and responded to by Mr. J. B. Johnston; Auckls.nd Harbour Board, proposed by Mr. W. R. Ingram, and responded to by Messrs. H. R. Mackenzie and E. W. Inder. An excellent musical and vocal programme was provided.
