AN EXPENSIVE RIDE.
WRONG SEAT COSTS £5 os. Mr. F. Si Drilles, a merchant, of Wellington, had costs entered against him in tho Magistrate's Court last week under rather unusual, circumstances. Tho railway authorities proceeded against him for. occupying a reserved seat in a train and travelling in it from Palmeiston North to Woodville. Tho excuse for the defence was that when the train left Wellington tho seat was unoccupied, and naturally thinking that the rightful owner was not coming, Mr. Drilles made tho best of it. Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., said ho did not wish to fine tho defendant. However, the law must be observed, and for that reason he would enter costs against him. Tho expenses amounted to £5 9s, and judgment was accordingly made in favour of the department.
