DEVONPORT BEAT ATHLETIC.

The competitions of the Auckland llugby League were continued on Saturday in beautiful weather. Another largQ crowd assembled at Carlaw Park and witnessed a good game between City and Richmond, the former winning by a 'margin of 12 points, although the scoring ,was heavy on both sides. Marist had a comfortable win over 'Nfewtpn on No. 2 ground at Carlaw Park. 'At Norjth Shore D evonport defeated I Athletic;" 1 by 19 points to 10, after an excellent exhibition of tho League code. Results are as follow:— City, 34, beat Richmond, 22. Marist, 26, beat Newton, 6. Devonport, 19, beat Athletic, 10. Kingsland, 5, drew with Ellerslie, 5. Otahuhu, 15, beat Northcote, 6. CITY V. A good mark by Mackie saved City, and then Ruby dashed past several opponents before fully half-a-dozen Richmond players forced him to the ground. Good work by Ilanlon improved Richmond's position. Picking tip the ball in the loose Gallagher made a good opening, but his pass to Singe was knocked on. From a scrum on Newton'B line, Ghent got over. Kinjfsland, showing improved form, gave Ellerslie a surprise, the game ending with honours even, 5 points each. Herring, for Kingsland, opened up the play with a fine run down the centre, but hia pass to Campbell went astray. Good play by the Ellerslie forwards transferred play to Kingsland s twenty-five, where Shand missed a kick at goal. Fine play by McManus and Herring let Sims away, and he sprinted for the line, but just missed a try. There was plenty of dash in tho play of the Kingsland men, but solid defence by Williams and Cook saved Ellerslie on two occasions. Halftime sounded with no score. Early in the second spell Sims secured tho ball and dashed over •to score a nice try for King&land. Herring added tho goal points. , , This reverse aroused Ellerslie and for a time they had much the' better of the game. They made groat efforts to open their score, but Kingsland defended Well. NORTH COTE. Otahuhu proved too strong for Northcote at Victoria Park. Many scoring chances were lost by too much kicking. Plsvots in both teams almost invariably kicked when plenty of support was available. Northcote were first to score, Wilkin* being responsible for the try, which ho failed to convert.
