ECLIPSE OF THE SUN.

VISIBLE IN THE DOMINION. TIMES OF OBSERVATION. GREATEST PHASE NEAR SUNRISE. On Tuesday, July 21, there will occur an eclipse of the sun, of which some phase will be visible from all places in New Zealand. From flie Three Kings Islands, Capo Maria Van Dieman, I'arenga, and places situated within a few miles of these, the eclipse will be annular, the suri appearing for a few minutes as a narrow ring. From other stations in New Zealand the eclipse will be a partial one of varying magnitude, the fraction of the sun's diameter covered by the moon decreasing as one proceeds southward. As seen from New Zealand the sun will rise partially eclipsed and the greatest phase will occur shortly after sunrise. The following table, compiled by Mr. F. L. Morley, of tho Atkinson Observatory, Nelson, gives for a number of places tho 'approximate times of greatest eclipse, ending of eclipso, and its magnitude. I?oi Three Kings, (Jape Maria Van Dieman ans Parenga two times are given in the column "greatest eclipse." The first of these is the time of commencement of annular eclipse, and tho second that of ending of annular phase:—
