DEMAND FOR PROGRESS.
THE BULLER * ELECTORATE. / COMPLAINT OF ISOLATION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] , WESTPORT. Tuesday. One of the largest and most enthusiastic and most representative public meetings held in Westport took place in tho Town Hall this evening, Mayor Menziea presided. The following resolutions were carried unanimously : That this representative meeting of electors of the Buller electorate enters an emphatic protest at the slow.progress being made with the construction of the West(Buller Gorge) railway, particularly from Cascade to Inangahua Junction. It requests the Minister for Railways to expedite the work and points out that the whole electorate is handicapped by the isolation under which it exists. This meeting is of opinion .that the work is of great national importance as well as of importance to the Buller district. The natural resources of the district warrant completion of the lino to link up with the South Island main system. This meeting further strongly recommends that a contract for this work be let as early as possible by tender. That the Minister for Public Works' be urged to complete the Westport-Grey-mouth Qoastal. road, as being imperative in the interests of the whole community and of far reaching economic effect. That the road be declared a main highway. That the Buller Progress -League. Westport Borough ; Council, Buller County Council and other local bodies and committees be asked to send a combined deputation to Wellington to bring these matters before the Government.
