AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP,. ROBERT HARRIS THE WINNER. (Kcceived p.m.) Heuter. ■ J LONDON. May 30. Robert Harris won the final of the amateur golf championship at Westward Ho. Tho winner defeated Fradgley, 13 up and 12 to play. Such a result is unprecedented. Fradgley, who was never a robust man, had been under the doctor for tho past three days. Ho hardly slept last night and from tho beginning showed that ho was suffering from nervous tension. Harris won tho first five holos and was 6up at the ninth. In the second round Fradgley never won a hole, though ho halved the second and tho fifth. The new amateur golf champion of Britain Robert Harris, is 43 years old, having been born at Dundee in 1882. Ho is a member of the Royal and Ancient Club. In 1902 he won the Dundee Telegraph Cup and in 1904 the northern championship. In 1905 and 1920 he won the Royal St. George's Cup and in 1906 he tied for that trophy with S. Mure Ferguson, but on a replay lost by one stroke. He reached the final of the British amateur championship in 1913/ the semi-final in 1907 and the 6th round in 1910. Harris won the Golf Annual Gold Vase 1911-12. He represented Scotland ggainst England in 1905, 1908., 1910, 1911., 1912 and 1922; amateurs v. professionals in 1911; and was captain of the British team against America, at Long Island, in 1922. Harris has done the first holo at Addington in one stroke. He holds tho amateur record for Bushey (69) and is joint holder of the Sunningdalo record (74). His favourite shot is tho full iron.
