Y.W.C.A. AT HOME.
A largo gathering of women members of the Young Women's Christian Association assembled on Thursday afternoon at the invitation of the board of directors. Mrs. G. H. Wilson, president of tlio association, in introducing Mrs. Baildon, the Mayoress, as the guest of honour, expressed the pleasure of tho members of tho association at. Mrs. Baildon's presence and gave her a cordial welcome to the association. A demonstration of physical culture given under tho direction of Miss Withers, j the now physical director, proved a most ' interesting display. Exercises for developing tho various muscles of tho body were included in the demonstration. and an exhibition of arm movements as taught in tho rhythmic dancing class was a pleasing feature. An afternoon class for rythtaiio dancing lias been started this year and is. proving popular with home girls. A featuro of the Y.W.C.A. activities has always been the matrons' gymnastic class which will commence immediately. Other classes of interest to women members were outlined by Miss Stevenson. The matrons' public speaking class, conducted by Mrs. Webb, was found to be of such benefit last year, that another class will be formed shortly. Tho course of lectures given last year on tho psychology of the child under tho combined auspices of tho Y.W.C.A. and tho W.E.A. will bo followed this year by a courso oil the health of the child by Dr. Staloy. This courso will begin on June ii. • A stall in charec of the mothers chapter did good business for tho world fellowship funds, and many of those present ■joined up with the World Friendship Guild, the members of which promise to contribute two articles for sale every year, or else a gift of money on their birthday. , „ Miss Ngaire Bowles contributed greatly to tho social success of the afternoon by her songs, and afternoon tea was dispensed.
