CHESS. CLUB'S CONTEST. THE THAMES VALLEY SHOW. [[! Y TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TE AROHA, Saturday. Six members of the Morrinsvillc Chess Club visited Te Avoha to-day, this being the first inter-club match played this season by the local club. The result was a win for Morrinsvillc by 4£ games to 2J,-. Tho following are the results, Te Aroha players being mentioned first: —Macdonald A, v. Garroway i; Downey 0, v. Donald 1; Wagstafl! 0, v. O'Brien 1; Swnoy 1. V. Pickering, Junior, 0; Burton 1, v. Pickoring 0; Rev. Ryburn 0, v. Philpot 1; Mackay 0, v. Johnson 1. At the conclusion of play the visitors were entertained at dinner by the local club and arrangements were made to play a return match at Morrinsvillc on Wednesday, June 10. The Thames Yalley Agricultural. Pastoral and Horticultural Association held its annual meeting to-day. Mi*. R. Burke presided over a fair attendance of members. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. G. Stewart; vice-presidents, Messrs. F.~ M. Strange, F. L. Kenrick, A. A. Wagstaff, G< P. Goodfellow, J- A. Clothier, R. Burke, W. Luxton, F. I. Hunt, J. Colson and W. T. Dale; treasurer, Mr. F. W. Wild; auditor, Mr. N. J. Ray; secretary, Mr. J. R. Nicol. Delegates to the conference of associations to bo held at Hamilton on Juno 4 next: Messrs. G. Stewart and A. A. Wagstaff. The balance-sheet showed receipts £696 0s 2d, and. expenditure (including debit balance of £216 13s 5d at tho bank) £B9O 17s lid, leaving a debit of £194 17s 9d.
