Shaded effects are n novel feature in the new materials, says a writer in an American Exchange. Designs and groundwork shading from dark to light in one colour, or in two different colours, arc noticeable. These new fabric designs are especially suited to the long simple lines of the spring modes. A typical example is seen in a new patterned georgette, where one half of the width shades from blue unci white to black in a flora I design ; the ot he. - half is in a lovely shade of pale yellow and while. The shaded design fades into a. band of black in the centre, and this makes the girdle of a straight-down frock. J'or evening wear the new two-tone effects are really lovely. One beautiful dance frock of silk georgette in shadowy turquoise blue had an embroidery of rhinestones in all tones of blue on silver tissue. Nightgowns are almost tailored and are sometimes found with sleeves. Instead of bows we find fastenings hidden under rows of little pearl or sell-covered buttons. The most perfect brassieres are being shown for evening wear, made of beautifully cut black lace tin! finished with shoulder straps of silver chains. Others are made of several thicknesses of chiffon, while stronger still are those of gold or silver tissue laced behind and held in place with narrow tissue shoulder straps. To be really chic you must have one of the newest coats which look exactly like a man's. These coats are doublebreasted, slit up the buck and trimmed with rows of galalith buttons. The prettiest combs have appeared for the dancer to carry in her bag; they can be bought in all shades of galalith, and some are ornamented with semi-precious stones. "Check-pleating" is the newest form of ornamentation for day gowns of soft materials. The material is pleated in the form of tucks lengthwise as well as crosswise, the effect of checks thereby resulting. The new waterproofed felt hats are likely to prove a boo i to sportswomen. They are made in all the fashionable shades. Very gav multi-coloured cardigans are a feature of the latest children's fashions. Pieces of real eggshell are effectively used as trimmings for new spring hats. They are broken in various shapes and are stuck on to the crown in different designs. It is an amusing conceit among Parisians just now to have their umbrella handles adorned with a mask of their favourite actor or actress. The features may be carved in ivory, or made of some wonderfully expressive colour composition with a wax-like finish.
