LACK OF SERVANTS.
COUNTRY HOUSES CLOSE. Large houses in Sussex lmve had to ho shut up through the inability of the owners to find servants recently, said Mr. W. M. M. Killiek, a well-known Sussex agriculturist, with a large farjn at Bedingharn. "In my own house," added Mr. Killiek, "wo aro without a servant for the first time for 40 years." The local employment committee discussed the problem of inducing unemployed women and girls to become servants, but took no action. In an interview, Mr. Killiek said that he had not had a regular servant for six months, although "it is not a 'hard place' for a girl, and the last one employed received 15s a week and everything found."
