Tuea.iay It is now considered certain that the steamer Cyrena struck a sunken log brought down by tho recent flood. The impact was felt in tho enginoroom and created an impression there for tho moment that tho vessel had struck a rock. It seems certain that tho hull is badly damaged, as to-day tho tide roso and fell in tho holds. A .diver has arrived, and providing the weather conditions are favourable to-mor-row ho will attempt to locate the damage and ascertain its extent. Everything depends on the weather, and providing there is no chango tho salvage operations should be carried out expeditiouly. Tho Terawhiti continues to stand by. PLIGHT NOT YET HOPELESS. Tho weather is calm, and a start has been made to unload the caso oil cargo. When that is completed an accurate survey of tho damago will be possible, and it will be knpwn whether the vessel can bo patched up and towed off. Tho vessel first struck at a point where there was believed to be throe feet of water beneath tho hull, and tho obstruction is surmised to be a sunken log. The initial injury was so serious that thu steamer had to be beached to prevent her sinking in the fairway.
