DOMINIONS' PRODUCTS.

EMPIRE SHOPPING WEEK. INAUGURATION IN ENGLAND. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Renter. LONDON. May 25. British Empire shopping week was inaugurated to-day by a gathering of the members of the British Women's Patriotic League. The Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr. L. C. M. S. Amery, delivered a lecture on " Empire Trade." The Minister said the most hopeful sign in Britain's economic difficulties was the fact that women were waiving up to a consciousness of their power in developing tho Empire. He appealed to women to make a determined effort when they were shopping to ascertain whether they were purchasing Empire goods.

A recent cablegram said : " The Daily Graphic states that Lady Cowan, wife of Sir William 11. Cowan, Conservative M.P. for Islington, is finding '.'he greatest difficulty in her attempts to organise an Empire shopping week. Very few towns have consented to show only Empire products, and the Army and Navy Stores is practically the only London shop to do so." The Graphic adds: "Women forget patriotism when they go shopping. Kor not even one week in the year can the heart of the Empire forego its foreign goods, French clothes, German toys and American tinned foods. Nevertheless, Lady Cowan is not dismayed. She is organising a hall at the Hydo Park Hotel, where the, supper will consist solely of Empire-grown foods."
