EVENTIDE HOME PROJECT.

SALVATION ARMY APPEAL. THE CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS. The appeal which the Salvation Army is making for £650-; for the Lady Alice Eventide Home brngs before Auckland citizens a project v»nich will be accoided the sympathy and support of all classes of the community The need for sucb an institution, where aged ladies can spend the few icmaining years of life in comfort, has long been recognised by the Army, but hitherto it has been impracticable to put the scheme into effect. The purchase of a suitable property in View Road, Mount Eden, has now brought the establishment of the home within bounds ol accomplishment, and arrangements are being made for the official opening to take place next month. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, lias consented to perform tho opening ceremony. The home will be under the patronage of Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson, and without doubt 'will prove one of the most successful projects undertaken by the Army in the development of its social work. The property is ideally suited to its purpose, containing nearly three acres of ground laid-out in lawns and gardens and a residence which will provide accommodation for 20 inmates. A new wing is to be built, with accommodation for 10 more, each old lady being provided with a small si&gle room. Numerous applications for admission have already been received, and these show that the home will supply a longfelt need. The strictest care will be exercised in the scrutiny of applications; a high standard will be maintained at the home, and while poverty will not be a bar to admission only those of unimpeachable character will bo permitted to become inmates. A personal appeal to Auckland's leading citizens has already met with generous response, and a considerable sum of money has been received. Business houses have given the scheme their support, and numerous donations of furniture and equipment have been received, so that the inmates, %vhen they take up their residence at the home, will feel assured of the practical and whole-hearted sympathy of a community which realises its responsibilities and duties toward the aged.
