SENTENCED FOR CRIME.
CASES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —IMVESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday. It! tho Supremo Court to-day Mr. Justice Alpers ordered Stanley George Ilarwood to bo detained for reformative purposes for a period not exceeding two years. Tho charge was indecent acts toward a girl of 'eight. George _ David Stela was sent to the Borstal Institute at Invercargill for two years for assault on a, married woman. Alfred Stevens was sentenced to four months' hard labour for obtaining board and lodging by false pretences. ' Peter Dignam, Michael Fallon and .lames Connolly, threo firemen from tho steamer Hurunui, were acquitted on a charge of breaking and entering a stationer's'shop. They pleaded guilty to tho theft of goods "valued at £lOl 5s and were, sentenced to six days' imprisonment, which meant that they were released immediately. His Honor took into account the fact that flic men had been in prison since March 1 awaiting trial. Practically nil the goods had been recovered.
