KUROW ROAD TRAGEDY.
EVENTS OF PRECEDING DAY. VICTIMS ON BEST OF TERMS. jBY TELEGRAPH. —J7UESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. Monday. Tho district coroner commenced an inquiry this morning concerning what is known as tho Kurow tragedy, involving the death of Olive Jean Rutherford and Philip Richard Hudson. Charles John Bell, clerk, stated that ho knew the deceased couple were keeping company. On April 21, tho day preceding the tragedy, he met Hudson, and went "to his house. He knew Hudson generally had a pea-rifle in his car, but did not see it on Lhis occasion. They met Miss Rutherford and set out for Rutherford's place at Cavershatn, but changed their minds and turned back. Witness left the car in the city and went home. The deceased couple appeard to bo on the best of terms. Witness had no idea where they were going. Further evidence showed that at 9.30 p.m. Hudson bought a tin of petrol and a gallon of oil. The parties then seemed on good terms. The. inquest was adjourned,to Kurow tomorrow evening, ancl for further evidence at Oamaru on Wednesday.
