MR, W. C. BROPHY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORKESPOXDEN'T.J PALMERSTON NORTH. Monday. The death occurred early this of Mr. William Charles Brophy, a welt known and highly-respected resident ol Palmerston North. He was a member oi the firm of Messrs. Brophy and Mowlem, land agents, and was 55 years of age, Born at Kilkenny, Ireland, lie came tq New Zealand with his parents in 1874. landing at Bluff. From thero he wehj to Riverton, but after three years th<| family settled at Hawera, remaining then? until 1890, when Mr. Brophy came to Palmerston North. He was one of thq first members of the Palmerston North Orchestral Society, and also took an active part in the affairs of the Palmerston North Band. A keen bowler, also, ho was for years a successful member the Palmerston North Club. MRS. H. M. CANN. A well-known resident o? Te Aroha ami formerly of Auckland, Mrs. Helena Marj Cann, died at Te Aroha on Saturday aj the age of 77. She came to New Ze& land in the ship Maori 58 years ago, anij was married later at Tauranga. For maiij years she was a resident of Auckland and a prominent worker at the Church. Newton. For the last 16 vear| Mrs. Cann has lived at Te Aroha, wher< her two daughters reside. MR. W. T. SCULLY. . The death of Mr. Walter Thorn ,15 Scully occurred at Sydney on April 25, Mr. Scully was one "of "the, prommeni officials in tho New Zealand Telegraph Department in its earlier days. H<j served for many years at Napier, and waj at another time assistant officer-ihi charge at Auckland. Ho was alsij stationed at Wellington and Christchurclt, Mr. Scully, wlio was unmarried, retiree) from the telegraph service some years ago<
