THE A. AND P. SOCIETY. PAST YEAR'S OPERATIONS. :31C TELEGRAX'H.—OWN COIfKESPOJt'DENT. ] #HANGAREI. Saturday. The annual general meeting of the Whangarei A. and P. Society was held ■ this morning, tho president, Mr. Hugh W. Crawford, presiding over a large attendance of members. The report submitted regarding the past year showed that tho -winter show was a great success, the riding courts especially proving a very attractive innovation. The agricultural exhibits had been on a par; j with previous years, whilo dairy products showed a great increase. Financially the show was a success, a profit of £125 being made. The spring show was held a month earlier. than was customary, tho general opinion being that it was too early for stock to bo shown at its best. However, taken' altogether it was one of the best stock shows the society had ever had. A pleasing feature was the number of exhibitors from outside districts. ' The report stated that the winter show buildings were still a big drag on the finances of-the society. Some scheme was required whereby more revenue could be obtained from letting it for amusements and other purposes. A stock drive had been instituted, and resulted in' a highly successful response from settlers. Tho drive was not yet concluded, but over £7OO had been realised already./- This amount had more than paid off the debt on the cattle pavilion, the balance being applied to a reduction of the bank overdraft. The spring show disclosed a profit of £69. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election d'f officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. A. Clarke; vicepresident, Mr. R. I). Finlayson; treasurer, Mr. W. F. Tirnewell; executive, Messrs. 11. W. Crawford, George K. Cliff, J. J. Fraser, C. Fraser, F. Smith, A. C. M. Finlayson, CI. flaw ken, 1); J. Finlayson, J. A.
