WAIKATO UNION'S AFFAIRS. ANNUAL MEETING BUSINESS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COIVRESrONDENT.] HAMILTON, Saturday. The annual meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union was held in Hamilton last evening, the president, Mr. C. M. McDavitt, presidlnTho balance-sheet showed the finances of the union to be in a satisfactory state, there being a credit balanco of £BO. Tho report stated that the competition for the Peace, Finlay, and Binnie Cups had resulted in some good football. The Peace and Finlay Cups were won by Hamilton and Cambridge sub-unions respectively, while the Binnie Cup for the champion club in tho Waikato was won by City Club (Hamilton). The representative fixtures against Thames Valley, King Country and Auckland had not been successful from a football point of view, all tho matches being lost.. It was pointod out that owing to matches for the various cups being played on the same dates it had been impossible to get a really strong tear" together. It was stated that if a representative tour during the forthcoming season were decided upon tho financial side of the tour would be assured. It was unanimously agreed to support a motion of the Wanganui Union to the effect that all minor unions should flee that they are not outvoted by major unions, by sending delegates to tho New Zealand Rugby Union annual meeting. or by appointing proxies with instructions to vote against any such movement. It was stated that his agitation arose out of a desire by the Wellington Rugby Union in the direction of securing bigger voting power for major unions, Tho question, of boundaries between the Putaruru and Matamata sub-unions was again discussed as the result of a letter received froru the former sub-union. It was decided that, as thoro was no direct re?nest by players interested, to enter utarUru suo-union, the boundaries should remain unchanged. Another vexed question, that of the definement of the boundary between the Waikato and King Country sub-unions, was brought up by tho Waipa sub-union, whiiafi stated that it was unfairly placed bo far as its southern boundary was concerned. After discussion it was resolved to ask the Now Zealand Union for a more equitable adjustment of the boundary, and that a delegate from each of the unions concerned, with an umpire from the New Zealand Union, be appointed to deal with the matter, Mr. Quin was recommended as delegate- .from the Waikato Union. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. 'l'. Clarkin: vice-presidents, Messrs. T. A. Cooper (with a seat on the • Management- Committee), F, Quin. and 0. 'A. Care; secretary, Mr D, A. Mitchell; treasurer, Mr. W. Frasor; Management Committee, Messrs. A. G. Yardley (Matamata). B. Chapman (Morrinsville). F. Quin (Wnipa), C. A. Caro (Cambridge). A. S. Glide (Hamilton). Putaruru, Kawhia, Raglan, and Waingaro are to be asked io nominate their delegate. Solicitors, Messrs. D. Bourke, B. Chapman and F. Ilawke. Messrs. B. Chapman and T. Clarkin were appointed delegates to the New Zealand Union. Mr. R. English was re-elected auditor. Reference was mado to tho clashing of cup and representative matches, and the executive was instructed to revise the rules of tho Finlay Cup and bring down a report on the matter within a month. The meeting expressed its appreciation of the work done by the retiring president, Mr. McDavitt. and resolved that a record of hia services be placed on tho minutes. Tho matter of sending a representative team on tour this season was discussed. The chairman was in favour of the scheme and considered that Wairarapa. Horowhenua. Hawke's Bay. Tnranaki and Wellington should 1)0 included in the itinerary, it was estimated that tho tour would cost approximately £250. It was decided to instruct the delegates to arrange for the tour at tho meeting of the New Zealand Union. OPENING AT WANGANUI. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] ( WANGANUI, Saturday. The Rugby season was officially opened here to-day with a Heven-a-jide tournament and some fine play was witnessed. The two teams to fight out tho final were Kaierau, last year's champions, and Technical College Old Boys, who last year mado their debut into senior grade. Tho ex-collego students played a great game and gained a popular win by 8 points to 5. Tho winners were carried off the field shoulder high by admirers. WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS. [by telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON. Sunday. Tho Rugby season was opened yesterday in splendid weather. Poneke, 38, scored a decisive win over Oriental 16. Berhampore, a much improved side, created a surprise, beating Athletic. Other results wore: Varsity 11.. beat Old Boys 5; Petone 22, beat Wollington 12: Marist 0, drew with Hutt 0. The standard of play was quito up to expectations, and thero is every prospect of a successful season, with cloaelyoonte3ted competitions in all grades.

There was a very largo crowd at Lancaster Park, tho principal game being between Christchurch and Old Boys, who many consider will bo in tho final, Tho ground was fast recovering from the effects of tho storm under the bright sun and south-west breeze. Results were: Christchurch, 10, beat Old 8* Lin* wood, 16, beat Merivale. 5; North Canterbury and Varsity drew, 0 points each.
