NATIVE BURIAL GROUND.
COMPLAINT FROM TAUPIRI. [BIT TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT. J HAMILTON. Friday. A letter, to the effect that a complaint had been made by the Maoris in the Taupiri district that county workmen in taking metal from an adjacent quarry were tipping the spoil so as to encroach upon the Taupiri native burial ground, was received from the Minister for Native Affairs, the Hon. J. G. CoateS, at yesterday's meeting of the Waikato County Council. The Minister added that he fe't sure the council would not iintentionabv countenance anything which the natives might consider desecration of their cemetery. Members of the council denied any desire to injure the feelings of the natives, and it was resolved to take immediate action with a view to making a change in the method oi disposing of the spoil in order to prevent it falling where tho natives would complain.
