PAINTED PRISONERS.
FACE POWDER SURPRISE. " ATTRACTIVE LOOKING GIRLS." " I ( do not think it is right that girls on renand should come from prison to Court with tlteir faces powdered and painted," said Mr. Forbes Lankester at West London Police Court, when Kathleen Coleman, 19, and Violet Davis, 18, who gave false addresses, were remanded, charged with being concerned in stealing a handbag at Messrs. Barkers' Stores, in Kensington. Detective-Sergeant Isaac stated that since they were arrested the girls had treated the whole thing as a joke. Mr. Larikestcr; They seem at present anxious to go to the Devil, " I expect," he added, " they have come to their present position through being rather attrac-tive-looking girls." The Detective: The attractiveness, I think, is due to the powder and paint they put on. Mr. Lankester : Powder and paint! But they have been in custody for a week. How can they get powder and paint ? The Detective: Davis has some in her bag.
