WAITEMATA POWER LOAN.
Sir, —Your issue of last Monday , contains a lengthy letter from Mr. Gould in reply to my request for definite information re the feasibility of amalgamating the Waitemata and Auckland power districts. If Mr. Gould's letter contains all the evidence he is al)le to produce, it seems to be merely to confirm my contention that there is no proof whatever that amalgamation is available to the ratepayers of Waitemata, and I venture to think that few of them will find Mr. Gould's letter very convincing. If Mr. Gould has anything in writing from the Auckland Power Board or from Mr. Holdsworth committing that board to a definite undertaking to do something in the matter in the event of the Minister's opposition being overcome, then amalgamation may be worth consideration. 1 fail to see that Mr. Gould has yet produced tho definite statement that I am asking for. Northcote. W. E. RICJIAjftDSON.
Sir, —So far as is concerned let it suffice that if he is willing-to pay mora for electricity under the Waitemata Power Board scheme than ho would under an amalgamation scheme, we have no objection. In reply to Mr. James McLeod, member of the Waitemata Power Board, his statements are not exactly accurate. In the first case, at his meeting at Takapuna his party met with a very doubtful reception, and, in our opinion, the majority voted against them. In the second place, at the meeting at:Northcote, his party was obviously defeated by a considerable majority. Cyril Mackley, Hon. Secretary Waitemata Electric Amalgamation Committee.
