EXEMPTION REFUSED.
TRAVELLER AND DRILL. AVERAGE OF ONE A YEAR. Three drills in three years was tho record of a young commercial traveller, It. A. Finlay (Mr. A. Moody), who was prosecuted in tho Police Court yesterday for failing to attend drill and to deliver up equipment. Mr. Moody said Finlay was away during tho week and he did not have a chance to drill. A defence officer said Finlay was supplied with a rifle for a ceremonial parade. He did not parade neither did he return the rifle until a summons was issued. He had paraded three times in three years and had not attended camp. On the first charge Finlay was convicted and ordered to pay 18s costs while on the second he was fined £2 and costs. His application for exemption on account of his employment, taking him out of Auckland for two and a half months at a time was refused.
