OFFICER IN LONDON. MR. FERGUSON APPOINTED. fr.Y TELEUrt.U'H.—OWX CORKESroXDF.MT. ] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Some time ago the Government decided that a qualified officer of the New Zealand service should be appointed to carry out the duties of the trade and produce oflicer in London. It was considered that the best interests of tiio Dominion would be served by appointing an officer who was fully acquainted with New Zealand requirements. The Hon. J. G. Coates intimated to-day that the Government had decided to appoint Mr. W. S. Ferguson to the position. Mr. Ferguson is at present inspecting officer in the Public Works Department, Wellington, and is considered, eminently suited for tho position. Ho gained considerable commercial experience prior to entering the Public Service, and has been an officer of the Public Works Department for some 19 years. During that period tie has gained an intimate knowledge of practically every branch of the department, particularly in connection with the purchase and control of stores.
