TREE DESTRUCTION.
POSTAL LINESMEN BLAMED, Destruction of growing trees by tho Postal Department's employees was tha subject of a complaint made by the New South Wales branch council of the Australian Forest Association to the department recently. It was alleged that in, erecting telegraph and telephone line* workmen needlessly broke down young trees growing along the routes. At Curlewis, in the north-western district, the trees flanking the road had been considered the greatest beauty of the dis. triet, but the department's men had cut them down, stating that they were dan> gerously near to the telegraph Jines running along an adjacent railway. In reply, the Postal Department states that employees arc under strict instructions to leave growing trees untouched, save where their destruction is absolutely necessary, and that ai report- has been requested'from the authorities at Curlewia
