FIRE BOARD PROPOSAL. POLL DECIDED UPON. Tho Onehunga Borough Council mot last evening, the \ Mayor, Mr. J. E. Cowell, presiding. There were also present Messrs. A. .J. Hipwell, F. H. Dodd, It G. Barnes, G. Hunter, C'. E. Goode, P. R. Lipscombe, T. G. 11. Gilbert and W. C. Coldieutt,

A letter was received from tho Minister for Public Works, advising that he was giving his consideration to the council's recommendation that the Main Highways Board should not exclude boroughs when proclaiming roads as main highways, in those cases when roads through boroughs wero thoroughfares used by neighbouring districts.

A largely signed letter was received from residents in Cameron Street, complaining of tho system on which the houses had been numbered in that street. These had sinco been rectified, and the council confirmed the appointment of the assist-ant-inspector to continue the work of numbering all the houses in tho borough. A deputation representing tho Mangere Football Club waited upon the council to ask that they be allotted a ground in tho reserve, but after hearing their claim, and also their answer to various questions, it was decided to confirm the recommendation of the council in committee to allot one ground to the Association Football Club and three to the Manukan Rovers. At the same time it was decided to examine the reservo further, and if it is possible to get another football ground it will be given to the Mangere Club. Otherwise it was suggested that they apply to the Otahuhu Trotting Club for a ground. In connection with tho report of Mr. Gilbert on the advisability of forming a firo board for Onehunga, it was decided to tako a poll on the proposal at the forthcoming election. The council voted five guineas toward the expenses of tho Auckland-Waikato Waterways League. The balance-sheet of the Onehunga Municipal Band was presented, showing assets at £1054 16s. and liabilities at £524 0s Bd. Receipts for the year amounted to £243 2s sd, and the expenditure £252 9s lid. . . nrm The supplementary roll, containing names, was approved and signed. Mr. Dodd suggested that on Anzac Day a parade should be called, comprising the returned soldiers, the fire brigade, and tho Municipal Band, and the Mayor will arrange this to take place before the memorial service in the morning. Plans of pormanent levels of No. 3 contract were approved and signed. The town clerk reported that they had been advertised, and no objections had been made. A public meeting is to be held in the Foresters' Hall on Thursday. April 16, to bo addressed by tlw Mayor aud councillors.
