THEFT OF A CHEQUE.

PROBATIONER'S LAPSE. TWO MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. "Probation is of no use to him," remarked Mr. J. \V. Poynton, S.M., in reference to Audrey Lionel Moore, aged 23, who pleaded guilty in the Police Court, yesterday, to theft of a cheque for £2, the property of Lionel Frank Stewart,, on January 13, at Kaukapakapa. Accused took a letter containing the cheque from some mail on a sideboard at Mr. Stewart's house, stated ChiefDetective Cummings. He then cashed, the cheque. A sentence of two years' probation had been imposed on him for theft, from a dwelling and the term had not yet expired. Two months' imprisonment was imposed.
