TELEPHONE OUT-OVER.
THE AUTOMATIC SYSTEM. PLANT IN READINESS. MIDNIGHT NEXT SATURDAY. Preparalions arc well in hand for the cut over from the manual to the new automatic telephone service, which is to take place at midnight on Saturday next. Mr. E. A. Shrimpton, chief telegraph engineer, reached .Auckland yesterday and visited the various exchanges, where the finishing touches are being put to the new installation. Tie will remain in Auckland to observe the actual cut-over on. Saturday night. The department advises that after the cut-over the old telephones should not be used, but care should be taken to leave the receivers on the hook. Subscribers would do well to read the. instructions for the operation of the new telephones, as set out on pages 2 and 3 of the new telephone directories, which have now been circulated. .Practically all numbers have been changed, and to avoid possible confusion. subscribers should familiarise themselves with the new numbers.
