LUCKY STONES.
Tho topaz is an emblem of friendship and fidelity. It also has a good effect on tho wearer in that it cheers and brightens tho spirits, and many hold tliat a topaz protects tho ownor against accident at sea. Tho garnet also makes for good spirits on tho part of tho wearer, and has a reputation of giving confideuco to those who wear it. Tho diamond is, of course, the emblem of parity and innocence, wliilo tho ruby signifies lovo in its highest form. The reputation of tho opal as an unlucky stone should bo qui to disregarded in tho case of those whoso birth stone (October) it is. In such cases it is said to bring good fortune to the wearer. It is also declared safe to wear an opal if at tho same time the birth stone is worn as well. The turquoise, when given by a lover, is said to change colour if tho lovo ceases. It is also stated that this turquoise will alter its hue when tho wearer' is in danger. Hero is a list of the lucky stones according to the birth month: —Garnet, January; amethyst, February; bloodstone, March; diamond, April; emerald, May; agate, Juno; ruby, July; sardonyx, August; sapphire, September; opal, October; topaz, November; turquoise, December.
