PRESENTATION CEREMONY. GROWTH OF THE POST OFFICE. [BT TELEGRAPH. OWN' CORRESPONDENT. ] DARGAVILLE. Monday. There was a large attendance on .Saturday at the starting of the town clock, presented to Dargavillo by Mr. E. N. Hayes, as a memorial to his lato partner, Mr Charles Darling, and other fa}len soldiers. Mr. Hayes presented the clock lo the Hen. J. G. Coates, PostmasterGeneral, for the department, and Mrs. Hayes pulled the ribbon which started the clock.

Mr. Coates gave a resume of the local post, office business since it was first:opened in 1871. the Hon. E. Mitchelson being the first postmaster In 1877 there, was a twiee-weeklv mail; now it. was daily from Auckland. In 1913 the telephone subscribers numbered 116. now 380. a, small increase, 'owing to the opposition of a private exchange. In 1913 the letters, etc., posted. numbered 64.430; in 1924. 604,666. Letters, etc., delivered in 1913 numbered 34,990; last year the number was 619.216. Postage revenue in 1913 was £1658; last year it was 12527. Money orders issued in 1913 numbered 1656. valued at £3247; ;;i 1924 the number was 2526, valued at £14,807. Saviu-fn Rank denosits in 1903 amounted to £12.863; in 1924. £50.139; telegrams, forwarded in 1905 numbered 9219; | ; »si vear 39.306 Telegrams received in 1003 numbered 7650; last year 43.691.
