QUEENSLAND'S PREMIER

MR. W. N. GILLIES ELECTED. CHANGES IN THE CABINET, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CESecd. 5.5 P.m.) BRISBANE. Feb. 26. The Labour Party has elected Mr. W. N. Gillies as Premier of Queensland in succession to Mr. E. G. Theodore, who has resigned. Mr. Gillies was previously Minister for Agriculture, Mr. W. MeCormack has been selected deputy leader of the State Parliamentary Labour Party. Mi'. W. Brennan, who was Minister for Public Instruction, has been appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court. Two new Ministers, Messrs. Wilson and T. Dunstan, have been chosen. The new Premier of Queensland was bora in October, 1868, and was educated at Allynbrook, New South Wales, Ho 'afterwards farmed in that State and became a sugar-grower. He has been president of the Sugar Defence League of New South Wales. Finally ho went to Athcrton, North Queensland, where he selected land. In 1912 he was elected M.L.A. for Eacham, arid was reelected in 1015 and 1918. Ho was chairman of the Public Works Commission in 1916, and became Minister for Justice in 1918. In tho following year he took over the portfolio of Agriculture.
