RAILWAY COLLISION.

AUSTRALIAN ACCIDENT. GOODS TRAIN OUT OF CONTROL. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Feb. 23. A sensational railway smash occurred alongside the liawkesbury River early yesterday morning. A goods train comprising 23 trucks drawn by two engines was descending a steep slope, when apparently the brakes failed to act. Completely out of control, the train raced across the bridge at terrific speed into the Hawkesbury station and crashed into the engine of a stationary goods train, which was wrecked. The debris was piled 30ft. in the air. Four men from the crews of both trains were injured and sent to hospital.
