TRAFFIC IN QUEEN STREET.

Sir, —The City Council's decision to exclude motor-buses from that portion of Queen Street between Weilesley arid Customs Streets I regard as an unfortunate error of judgment, which will entail considerable inconvenience on a largo number of citizenc. I cite my own case as an example. I live at Boundary Road, Mount Eden, a full mile beyond the tram terminus. Naturally I welcomed the advent of the buses as a means of obviating having to walk that mile. I have been in the habit of boarding the bus anywhere between Wellesley Street and the post office, and as i my office is in Wellesley Street, this was a great convenience. Now, perforce I must proceed to the post office to get a bus. This may add a further three-half-pence to one's daily expenses and will certainly entail the loss of several minutes . of valuable time every day. No doubt the tramway authorities will say the answer to this complaint is simple, viz., "Take the trams." That is easy, but what about the mile to be walked after the tram terminns is reached 1 I am sorry to, think so, hut fear the motive underlying this change is an attempt to coerce citizens to a more frequent nse of the tram services. The advent of the buses has created a very knotty competition for the trams to meet, and for this the City Council has no one to blame but itself. The needs -of tho large tion residing beyond the tram termini - were urgent long before the present bus services came into operation, but the council did nothing. Long ago, the « council should have instituted bus services in the outlying suburbs as feeders to tha trams, and then in all probability the present competition would never have arisen. B. Buttle.
