GATHERINGS OF TEACHERS.
Sir, —I was amazed 10 read that tho teachers of Auckland Province had bom ordered to attend refresher courses .at various centres. As the mother of five young children ,1 have shared v.-ith other parents the worry and responsibility of tho last two months. I have appreciated tho common sense arrangements of the Health Department and have in avery way endeavoured to obey its advice—a difficult matter when dealing with lively, healthy children. That a department which aims to develop our children physically and mentally should deal so drastic a blow at child welfare seems incredible. Surely it is not too Ja to to, bring common sens© to bear on these arrangements. Anxious Mother. Sir, —I noticed with pleasure in Thurs* day's Herald two letters protesting against the congregating of teachers at the present anxious time. Medical authority has confirmed the fact that while adults are not usually affected by infantile paralysis, they may easily become carriers of the dread disease. Immediately upon the return of teachers from infected areas the schools will reopen, and none can prfedict the result. As a father of : three school-children, I strongly protest against the action of the Education Department, and trust that steps may yet be taken to cancel what must appear to most an. absurd folly. Parent.
