OBITUARY.

MR THOMAS EYTON. A veteran of the Maori Wars, Mr. Thomas Eyton, has died at the age of 82. A son of a lieutenant-commander in the Royal Navy, he was educated in Essex, and spent his early years at Trinity House, London. He came out to New Zealand ill 1862 and joined the Otahuhu Cavalry the following year, serving later with the Taranaki Bushrangers and the Patea Light Horse. He was present at the engagements at Manutahi, Otaupo and Nukumaru. At the close of the war he was employed in the Treasury in Wellington for five years, afterwaids entering into business on his own account. During the past few years Mr. Eyton.has resided in Auckland, whtue he took a keen interest m the Veterans' Association. The funeral, which took place yesterday, was attended by a number of his comrades from the Veterans' Home. A daughter of Mr. Eyton, Mrs. McPherson, resides in Fiji. MR, JOHN HALL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON Monday. The death occurred at the Waikato Hospital yesterday of Mr. Ezra John Hall, at the age of 88 years. The late Mr. Hall lived in New Zealand for nearly 50 years, most of which timo he spent in Hamliton, with occasional short periods in Taranaki. While visiting a married daughter in Te Kuiti about a month ago, Mr. Hall fell down some steps, breaking a bone in one of his knees. He was conveyed to the Waikato Hospital, whero ho died. He is Survived by two sons, Mr. George. William Hall, of Te Awamutu, and Mr. James Hall, of Ohaupo, and by two married daughters, one of whom resides at Te Kuiti and the other at Auckland. An early arrival in the Dominion, Mr. Joseph t Martin, of Puketaha, passed away in tho Waikato Hospital this morning. Mr. Martin was born in County Down, Ireland, in 2840, and served his apprenticeship in the ironmongery trade. He arrived at Lyttelton in the ship Lancashire Witch in 1863, and was employed by several ChrlsTchurch firms. Seventeen years ago he came to the Waikato and took up farming pursuits at Waingaro and Puketaha. Mr. Martin was a Hie-long member of the Baptir.t Church, and was an officebearer at Christchureh and Hamilton. He is survived by a widow and two daughters, Miss Martin and Mrs. W. 11. Worster, of Puketaha. The funeral took place to-day, and was largely attended.
