SEPARATED CHILD WIFE.
MAINTENANCE IN ARREARS. ALLEGATION BY HUSBAND. [BY TELEGRAPIf^—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Frid:>v, A Dalmatian named Ivan Slakish (.Mr. Johnson J was charged at Hamilton with failing to maintain his wife and child. Mr. Tompkins, for the .complainant, stated that Slakish was £l3 16s 6d in arrears in respect to his wife and £4 in respect to his child, the latter being in the Salvation Army Home at, Hamilton. Defendant had married a half-caste Maori girl when she was fifteen, and on medical recommendation they had been separated by an order of the Court until the girl reached the age of eighteen. Defendant bad agreed to maintain his wife and child until .that time, but had stopped making payments. Mr. .Johnson said Slakish alleged that his wife had been out with another man and that defendant refused to maintain her unless she discontinued her relations with this man. Defendant was quite prepared to maintain the child in the home, but alleged that if had not been placed there when tho order was made. He intimated that £7 would be paid into Court for the child's maintenance. On the charge concerning his wife, defendant was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, tho sentence to lie suspended so long as be paid 10s a week off the arrears. On the other charge a sentence of three weeks' imprisonment was imposed. also to be suspended as.long as 5s a week was paid off the arrears.
