EXPENSIVE OYSTERS.
THREE VISITORS FINED. POACHING AT MOTUTAPU. ] Three visitors to Auckland during Christmas week, William Barborough, of Waipawa, and James Hickey and Alfred Hanlen, of Napier, were each fined £2 and £3 10s costs in the Police Court yesterday for taking oysters from Motutapu during the close season. Defendants did not appear. Tho inspector of fisheries stated that, guided by the knocking of stones, he caught defendants in the act of picking and eating oysters. Each admitted his offence, but ' pleaded ignorance of the regulations.
