GAMBLING IN WHEAT.
PROFITS QUICKLY MADE. SHARP ADVANCE IN VALUES. LONDON. Jan. 30. There was wide excitement in London wheat circles all night long when the news of the boom in prices in America was received. After the closing of the Baltic Exchange one dealer, telephoning from his fireside, bought a cargo of 7000 tons at /Is, and sold it at 72s 6d, clearing £525 in a few minutes. Tho sailing vessel Lisbeth, -which left Adelaido on January 19. is blissfully ignorant of the fact that her cargo of 3000 tons of wheat, which has changed hands nearly a dozen times in a few days, and which was sold on her departure at 66s 7d, is this morning quoted at 70s 3d. Wheat authorities are of the opinion that speculators are not responsible for the present rise, which, they say, is due to a real shortage of wheat. Hungary has suspended the wheat impost duties, and expects to receive 100,000 tons in three months. Bussia also is importing wheat*
