The charges against Herr Hoefle, formerly Minister for Posts and Telegraphs and for Occupied Territories, include tho acceptance of a bribe of 50,000 marks from the Depositent Handels Bank in exchange for the placing of Reich funds with that bank, which resulted in the loss to the Government of £500,000. Hoefle is also accused of appointing the bank in question the Government's agents /or the purchase of gold, and of giving a. Centre Party deputy, Herr Lange Hegermann, 2,000,000 gold marks ostensibly for relief purposes in occupied territory. Of the sum named Hegermann is said to have devoted a largo portion to his own use. A. prosecution has been launched against several of the directors of the Depositent Bank. Two of them have fled abroad with Government funds. One is said to have acquired Lettish citizenship and the other Dutch citizenship. This makes their extradition almost impossible.
