A WARSHIP'S BABY.
PRETTY NAVAL INCIDENT. BIRTH CERTIFICATE FILED. GIFTS SENT IN ITS PLACE. Whiio a father and his children from the Waikato were visiting H.M.S. Danae in Auckland on the occasion of the visit of the fleet, another baby girl was born. The newcomer was named Danae, and the parents hit upon the idea'of forwarding the birth certificate to the commander of the warship for endorsement-. Instead of that request being complied with, the parents have received a reply stating that the certificate has been filed with the ship's papers, which, when the ship is placed out of commission, will be pigeon-holed in the Admiralty. A beau-tifully-bound edition of "The Legend of Danae," embossed with the coat of arms of the warship, and a pretty gold brooch of the same design were forwarded to the baby, together with a letter from the commander and officers.
