MOUNT ALBERT AFFAIRS.

Sir.—lt ia good to find that there are still a few ratepayers sufficiently alive to complain of Mount Albert affairs. Coming from the South Island, I was simply amazed that such conditions could exist, and so little be given for the high rates charged; no footpath, unless a few ashes could be so called; a road that all men shun; and no lamp within many chains of the street, without mentioning many more conveniences that every housewife craves. However, I had no intention of " chipping in," until "Fair Play" boasted of the " Mount Albert Clean-up," and that did annoy me. May I ask in which particular street this ''clean-up" took place, as it sounds like a fairy tale to me ? At that particular time, all round our neighbourhood, the dustbins remained on the sidewalk for three solid weeks, without a vist from the dustman. As to poor " Disgusted " ever getting rid of his old beds, etc.. well, he has my sympathy, as even small pieces of tin, which we have tried to get rid of, may be seen still ornamenting the centre of our road way. Also I should like to know if there lives a person in Mount Albert who has had his dustbin replaced once in a proper way? We search the ditch and through the long grass and at last pounce on our tin, pathetically regarding its extra dents, and then gather our forces together to go in search for the lid. Is this necessary, and what is the extra man for, if not to replace the tins, also the lids ? By all means let us join the city if that means being treated as civilised people. More Than Disgusted.
