WIFE DESERTION CHARGE. EXTRADITION OPPOSED. " This is an application for extradition but we claim it is not bona fid a, and we are in communication with New South Wales on the mailer," stated Mr. A. Moody, on behalf of Robert Henry Majurey, aged 39, who appeared on remand in the Police Court, yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., and Mr. J. H. Fray, J.P., charged with having wilfully and without lawful excuse, deserted his wife, Florence Majurcy, i n New South Wales. Counsel asked for a further adjournment for a week. Chief-Detective Curamings opposed a remand. Accused's e'scort had arrived and a steamer would bo leaving for Sydney to-day. It was uofc a question whether accused was guilty. The offence with which he was charged was an indictablo one, punishable by three years' imprisonment. The fact that he had travelled under an assumed namo had to "be considered. Eventually Mr. Cummings said ho would agree to a remand until this morning. This was granted, counsel intimating ho would probably have to ask for a further remand. Bail was allowed. GAOL FOR DRUNKENNESS. Two fourth offenders for drunkenness, Walter Freestone and Jeremiah O'ltielly, were each sentenced to one month's imprisonment. TWO REMANDS GRANTED. On a chargo of obtaining £3 from Edward J. Samuel at Takapuna on July 25, 1923, by falsely representing that he was about to publish booklets entitled Seaside Resorts of Auckland and Dairy Farming in New Zealand, in which ho would insert advertisements, Donald Forrest, alias James Cameron, aged 39, was remanded until next Thursday. Chief-Detective Cummings stated othor charges were pending. Accused was allowed bail of £IOO and ordered to report daily to the police. Charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Ella Baker on the night of February 6 with intent to commit a crime, John Edward Ramsey, aged 41 (Mr. Sullivan), was further remanded until next Thursday. Bail of £IOO was allowed, accused to report daily to tho police.
