Wednesday Advice has been received by the secretary o! the Putaruru-Taupo Railway Board that the Minister for Public Works has not yet granted the board's application for an Order-in-Council giving the board auth. ority to construct a railway from a point on the existing Taupo-Totara Timber Company's line, 19 miles from Putaruru, to Oruamii. If the board was unable to purchase the existing lino from Putaruru to the 19-mile peg, the board asked for authority to construct a railway from Putaruru to Oruanui. In November last a special committee was appointed by the Minister to inquire into the circumstances connected with the application, and as far as is known, the committee has not yet reported to the Minister.
