Feb. .11, The secretary of the Seamen's Union, Mr. Tom Walsh, has lodged an • Appeal against the fines imposed upon him yesterday for inciting union officials to do something in the nature of a strike. A message from Melbourne states that another attempt to end the deadlock in the case o'f the steamer Moeraki was made to-day. The Union Company applied to the City Court for a recision of the contract between the crew and tha master of the steamer. There are at present 35 men aboard the vessel, which is unable to sail until her legal complement is complete. The company has decided to lay fh» vessel up temporarily. The Court has tieen approached with the object of potting the crew ashore. In the event of the application being granted the Union Company will be able to pay the crow off at Melbourne without being under the obligation to return the men to their home ports. The steamer Koromiko is still held up at Adelaide. The agents were successful in engaging men for the vacancies,.but when the time arrived for the vessel to sail, only two firemen in addition to the two just signed on were aboard out of tha complement of 12.
