DENSE FOG IN AMERICA.

WORST EVER EXPERIENCED* MANY FATAL ACCIDENTS,, LAND AND SEA COLLISIONS. . By Telegraph—Press Association—CopxrisM. (Received 1.1.55 p.m.) A. and N.Z, NEW YORK, Feb. 10. A fog rivalling in density that which recently enveloped London, and thicker than was ever experienced before in tha United States, settled over the northern half of the country and the Atlantic coast. It has resulted in considerable loss of life, many injuries to persons and damage to property, besides causing great inconvenience. In the past two days while the fog has prevailed collisions have occurred in which there were involved three elevated railway trains, two trams, two railway trains and two ferry boats. As a result of these accidents there have been two deaths, and 14 people have been seriously injured. The Canadian steamer, Empress of Scotland, collided with the British cargo steamer, Scotsburgh. The latter suffered considerable damageEleven hundred passengers on incoming liners were unable to land at New York until this evening. At Chester, Pennsylvania, five persons were killed and two others were seriously Injured when a railway engine, which was ; hidden by the fog,, ran down two motor- ! cars. At New Haven, Connecticut, a motorcar collided with a tram. Other minor accidents are reported from many places.
