CONFERENCE RESOLUTIONS. ESSAY COMPETITIONS. PARENTS AND CHILDREN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —IRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday The New Zealand Navy League Conference was concluded to-day. Mr. Clark moved on behalf of Dunedin: " That the Education Department be asked to extend the same facilities in connection with the Navy League competitions are arc now enjoyed in Otago to all places in the Dominion." The mover spoke of the great assistance given to the Navy League by the education authorities in Otago. Ho was convinced, he said, that the essays did a great deal to further the work of the league. Branch representatives undertook that the information would be given and the remit was withdrawn. The following remit from 'Dnnedir. was carried without discussion: "That the Education Department be asked to give prominence to leading naval events in its history syllabus." Mr. Troleaven referred to the report of the Empire Navy League Conference. From the remarks of some people he said it might be thought that the New Zealand branches were dissatisfied with head office methods. As there was a proposal to set up ah Imperial Navy League, he would not like head office to think that they approved of this. Mrs. Darling remarked that they did not always approve of the action of the head office. The President: They do not always approve of their own former actions. Mr. Treleavcn then moved: "That it be a recommendation to the branches to discuss the pros and cons of the Empire Conference, held on November 3, and express opinion whether there should be an Imperial Navy League or not." The motion Was seconded by Mr. Darroch and was carried. On the motion of the president, it was decided to send a Letter of congratulation to Earl Jellicoe on receiving his earldom. The following remits were earned:— "The league congratulates the British Government on its intention to proceed with the Singapore base, and urges the New Zealand Government to give every support to the project, moral and financial"; "that development of coastal defence measures of the Dominion be again urged upon the Government" ; ' that all branches of the Navy League throughout New Zealand shall fittingly celebrate the anniversary ox the battle of Jutland, and that the Navy League respectfully suggests to the Government certain days as red-letter days for % saluting of the flag in schools and a talk or lesson on the ceremony. * * It was decided to congratulate the Government upon having taken definite steps toward providing a naval reserve force for local defence. The conference decided that the next conference be held in Dunedin during the Exhibition.
